Treasure Hunt

Gambia activity | treasure hunt | Lamin Bojang

A Day Hunting for Treasure in Gambia

Your day of treasure hunting starts at approximately 9 am after a leisurely breakfast. Your destination that day is left to Lamin and is dependent on what he is looking to find for his museum. You can read more about his project further down.

During your exciting and informative full day you will meet local people and village elders, seeing parts of The Gambia that other tourists could only dream about. The fun really starts if you're lucky enough to unearth one of Gambia's hidden treasures and begin bartering for them, knowing that you are playing a pivotal part in securing the history of the region for generations to come and for all to enjoy!

The amount you spend bartering for historical artifacts is up to you but we recommend you allow - / person.

The Gunjur Village Museum

Lamin Bojang is a birding guide, entrepreneur & founder of The Gunjur Village Museum.

Lamin's story: "I first began my plans for The Gunjur Museum building for cultural heritage and environmental preservation some years before I came to Footsteps as a birding guide. The idea is to create the community's first Cultural Heritage Museum for the benefit of researchers, students, tourists, locals and future generations.

Our history is disappearing. Our traditional languages are not written languages but spoken only and with no central record of historical events the culture of past generations is being lost. I won't let that happen, our culture is too important."

To this end Footsteps Eco-Lodge has been raising awareness and funds for Lamin's project.

The next stage in the development of Lamin's project is to increase the number of items for display in the museum. We are therefore very proud to introduce The Treasure hunt Gambia initiative to discover and catalogue items of historical significance.

HUGE THANKS to everyone who has helped so far with special mention to Ethical Travel Portal, the Jiki Foundation and a number of our guests who between them have achieved not only the purchasing of land in Gunjur, but also the building of the museum.
