The best thing about our accommodation is that you get a great night’s sleep! All our rooms are detached and use simple, yet effective techniques to help stay cool: shade-giving trees, a hot air extraction vent and 360° window ventilation. Immerse yourself in nature with all the creature comforts you would expect from an ecologically responsible hotel: high-quality mattresses, en-suite bathrooms with hot/cold water and a composting toilet that really works.
There is a fan and a room safe in every room, both of which are provided free of charge. Footsteps is off-grid, which means no generator noise or unnecessary carbon emissions. Wake each morning feeling refreshed and ready to make the most of your holiday! Room service – Mosquito nets on request – Fresh towels daily or less often if you prefer and laundry service. Ndey’s Chalets – Budget rooms where you Can Recharge in serene surroundings
Just 50 metres at the back of Footsteps, you will find Ndey’s Chalets. They are clean and comfortable and designed for backpackers and budget travellers.
Each of the four chalets has its own ( limited ) electricity. Phone, laptop, and camera batteries are okay. Hairdryers, kettles, or anything like that aren’t supported.
They each have a bathroom with a hot and cold water shower and a flushing toilet.
This accommodation benefits from everything at Footsteps and includes breakfast at the lodge each night of your stay.

Sunbird House – Sleeps 6

Sunbird House is our original self-catering villa and is still a favourite with our many birding guests. This Gambia accommodation is set in a Hectare of beautiful gardens with fruiting trees, colourful flowers and fragrant plants. Bordering Koofung Private Forrest Park to one side and is further protected by land at its back, which comes with its own bird hide. It is a 150m walk through our garden to the lodge and offers the best chance of seeing your favourite species from your bedroom window.
The most spacious of our villas, with just two bedrooms, each with a double and a single bed in a 200m2 footprint, its large day rooms can easily accommodate two extra single beds. It has a warm, natural feel featuring a funky mix of open fire block and plastered walls, varnished timbers and fantastic local art.

Guests who are looking for the ‘Wow! Factor’ will appreciate the impressive design and immaculate finish of Kaira Bunga, the most recent addition to the Footsteps’ accommodation family.
This self-catered accommodation was built for the 2023/24 season and is certainly a stylish villa. Constructed from local materials, it features its own Bantaba (a modern-day equivalent of a garden gazebo) and a handcrafted interior ceiling designed to be aesthetically pleasing, with the added advantage of keeping the house cool on hot days.
It boasts two large bedrooms (one of which is en-suite) and two luxurious bathrooms with hot showers and flushing eco-toilets. It has an established garden with fruit trees, native species and incredible flowering bougainvillaea.

Nestled within its very own secluded garden and blessed with luscious avocados, ripe bananas, and vibrant frangipanis in full bloom. Tickety-Boo stands proud as the largest among our self-catering accommodations. Uniquely positioned near the main lodge, it combines convenience with tranquillity.
This self-catered accommodation has three bedrooms – two boasting double beds and one featuring twin beds – as well as a capacity to accommodate two additional single beds. Tickety-Boo effortlessly caters to larger groups. This spacious villa caters for up to eight like-minded travellers with the opportunity to share accommodation while taking full advantage of everything that Footsteps Lodge has to offer too!
It has a spacious open-plan kitchen/dining room where you can relax and enjoy a refreshing drink while preparing your evening meal. Providing an ideal setting for conversations with friends and loved ones.

Top Tips
Bring a torch in case you come home a little later than expected, a good quality mosquito repellent, sensible shoes or sandals, your sunglasses and a hat. If you like to spend a lot of time at the beach, then a beach mat or towel is also a good idea!

Our airport collection and drop-off service is £30 for up to four passengers, and we have 24-hour check-in. So wherever you’re travelling from and whatever time you arrive, we are here just for you!
From May 2nd until November 1st, Footsteps closes its doors to conduct essential maintenance and for our team to receive some well-earned time off, ensuring a high-quality sustainable product each year for our guests.
