Our nine spacious detached roundhouses surround a fresh-water eco-pool and bar/restaurant. The attractive, domed roofs keep them cool and employ other simple, natural techniques such as hot air vents and 360-degree window ventilation. Each has its fruiting trees, giving the freshest breakfast juice, shade, and privacy.
Featuring en-suite bathrooms with clean, odourless composting toilets, they have one king-size or twin single beds, and an additional single bed can be added upon request. All nine rooms contain the work of local artists and you can buy them too😃

Ndey’s Chalets – Budget accommodations
Just 50 metres at the back of Footsteps you will find Ndey’s Chalets. They are clean and comfortable and designed to cater for backpackers and travellers who are on a budget.
Each of the four chalets has its own ( limited ) electricity, ie phones, laptops and camera batteries are ok, hairdryer, kettle or anything like that it won’t support.
They each have a bathroom with a hot and cold water shower and a flushing toilet.
These accommodations benefit from everything at Footsteps and include breakfast at the lodge for each night of your stay.

Our self-catering Villas
Self-catering gives you the freedom to choose. If you’re too busy relaxing to cook, you have all the facilities of the lodge, including its renowned restaurant, sun deck and fresh-water pool on your doorstep. Extra beds can be added in two of our villas, which means that for small groups on a budget, we’ve got you covered.
These accommodations have their own private entrance and parking area but with easy access to the lodge itself. They have all the features listed above, and in addition, they include a fridge, generous, fully-equipped kitchen, day room, solar electricity and hot showers, veranda and in the case of Kaira Bunga, flushing toilets. Each holiday home has its unique character but all offer the quality and comfort that have made Footsteps the first choice for discerning eco visitors to The Gambia.
Sunbird House – sleeps 6
Sunbird House is our original self-catering villa and is still a favourite with our many birding guests. This Gambia accommodation is set in a Hectare of beautiful gardens with fruiting trees, colourful flowers and fragrant plants. Bordering Koofung Private Forrest Park to one side and is further protected by land at its back which comes with its own bird hide. It is a 150m walk through our garden to the lodge and offers the best chance of seeing your favourite species from your bedroom window.
The most spacious of our villas, with just two bedrooms, each with a double and a single bed in a 200m2 footprint, its large day rooms can easily accommodate two extra single beds. It has a warm, natural feel featuring a funky mix of open fire block and plastered walls, varnished timbers and fantastic local art.
Kaira Bunga – sleeps 4
Guests who are looking for the ‘Wow! Factor’ will appreciate the impressive design and immaculate finish of Kaira Bunga, the most recent addition to the Footsteps’ accommodation family.
This self-catered accommodation was built for the 2023/24 season and is certainly a stylish villa. Constructed from local materials, it has its very own Bantaba ( a modern-day equivalent of a garden gazebo ) and a hand-crafted interior ceiling designed to be aesthetically pleasing and has the added advantage of keeping the house cool on hot days.
It boasts two large bedrooms (one of which is en-suite) and two luxurious bathrooms with hot showers and flushing eco-toilets. It has an established garden with fruit trees, native species and incredible flowering bougainvillaea.
Tickety-boo – sleeps 6 – 8
Nestled within its very own secluded garden and blessed with luscious avocados, ripe bananas, and vibrant frangipanis in full bloom. Tickety-Boo stands proud as the largest among our self-catering accommodations. Uniquely positioned near the main lodge, it combines convenience with tranquillity.
This self-catered accommodation has three bedrooms – two boasting double beds and one featuring twin beds – as well as a capacity to accommodate two additional single beds, Tickety-Boo effortlessly caters to larger groups. This spacious villa caters for up to eight like-minded travellers with the opportunity to share accommodation while taking full advantage of everything that Footsteps Lodge has to offer too!
It has a spacious open-plan kitchen/dining room where you can relax and enjoy a refreshing drink while preparing your evening meal. Providing an ideal setting for conversations with friends and loved ones.

Top Tips
Bring a torch in case you come home a little later than expected, a good quality mosquito repellant, sensible shoes or sandals, your sunglasses and a hat. If you like to spend a lot of time at the beach then a beach mat or towel is also a good idea!

Our airport collection and drop-off service are £30 for up to four passengers, and we have 24-hour check-in. So wherever you’re travelling from and whatever time you arrive we are here just for you!
