Your home during your stay in Gambia is a peaceful, serene, natural sanctuary. This makes it an ideal place to relax, unwind and connect with nature.

Enjoy a Yoga practice in a warm and friendly retreat environment with the tranquil sound of bird songs in the background.

Yoga Garden has a purpose-built yoga area set back from our lodge.

It is set on an acre of ground with fruiting trees (oranges, bananas, avocado, grapefruit, lemons), flowers, mature trees, and abundant birdlife.

Yoga in The Gambia

Our yoga retreat holidays cover a wide range of yoga styles.

We have retreats suitable for all grades of practitioners, from beginners to those more experienced and advanced.

A 7 or 14-day Yoga holiday offers at least two yoga sessions a day in the purpose-built Yoga Shala in Yoga Garden.

This is a traditional African bantaba (open thatched building) and it can cater to up to 18 people. We provide yoga mats, blocks, and towels.

All classes during your Yoga Holiday are led by internationally trained, inspiring, and friendly teachers. We also include at least one evening beach yoga sunset session.

Yoga and Chill
Wonderful place recommended to me by friends. Peaceful location and a short walk to the beach. I spent a lovely week here, David and Linda were amazing and so were all the staff. Food was great, local produce, always fresh and plenty of choice. Got to see a bit of the local life too during my stay and did yoga in the open air shala. A beautiful place to stay
A lovely place to stay! Footsteps is a real haven from the heat with its natural pool and cool rooms. Sitting in the shade watching the pygmy kingfisher come down to drink from the pool is just a perfect way to spend the hot afternoons. The owners have clearly done an amazing job at ensuring that the staff are happy, motivated, well trained and looked after which is really evident. The Lodge really cares about the environment which is also really evident. The food and service is amazing too! The team are so helpful, nothing is too much trouble, and they really helped us to arrange amazing trips, book taxis, give us ideas, and have a fabulous first holiday to the Gambia - we will be back!

Yoga & Qigong retreat paradise
Our experience at Footsteps surpassed any expectations we may have had. All my Yoga and Qigong students enjoyed the whole experience. There are so many positives but the ones that stand out are the friendliness and helpfulness of every single one of the staff, they make the whole time at Footsteps so much of a joy. The food is the best quality food I have tasted at any retreat centre and there is always a meat, fish and vegetarian option in the evening. David goes to a lot of trouble to offer a variety of day-trips to suit all tastes and also evening entertainment with local drumming and kora playing. I stayed for two weeks and didn't want to leave. A lovely place to stay with lovely people!
A blissfully quiet and relaxing 14 night stay in beautiful surroundings. We often had the sun deck to ourselves, binoculars in one hand, delicious freshly squeezed grapefruit in the other. So many different species of birds with beautiful exotic calls could be seen just from there. The almost deserted beach with the Wetlands behind were a quiet, twenty minute walk away. Everyone was delightful from the proud gardeners and smiling ladies that cleaned our roundhouse daily to Doudou, the manager, who greeted us every morning with a beaming smile. The food was fabulous, along with the catering staff. We particularly enjoyed eating at the friendship table in the evening whilst chatting with fellow guests. Special thanks to Lamin Bojang for this patience with my lack of bird identification, Lamin the tailor for my made to measure hat and to Ousman for driving us around and keeping a watchful eye on us. Truly relaxing experience
If I have to rank my favourite features about the Footsteps Eco Lodge, here there are 1 - The people. Everybody was so kind 2 - The setting. The hut we stayed in, the vast surrounding garden, the small pool, the sun deck are all perfectly arranged. 3 - The food. Very lovely three course meals in the evening, hearty breakfast and a nice choice of lunch. 4 - The activities. We were on a yoga retreat and in between the morning and evening session, there were lots of activities to chose from. Massage, Cooking, Visits of the local market, school, fishing village, Excursions further afield, Nature and bird walk, or simply the Beach. 5 - The yoga.

Footsteps lodge is amazing! From the staff to the food to the rooms, I’m quite a fussy eater but they were SO accommodating, lovely and warm, I’d recommend it to anyone and I will 100% be staying here again. Relaxing in nature
Having stayed at Kaira Bungo house we enjoyed two bedrooms, two well equiped bathrooms and a spacy kitchen-living area. Nice natural materials and handmade furniture. Around the house terasses between trees and bushes and a bird tub that was filled with water daily. No neighbor in sight. Very relaxing atmosphere. The staff is amazing, everybody is caring. There are different craftsmen in the lodge explaining there work and producing by personal demand. The save walk to the beach takes 20 minutes along sand roads, we did not see many people there or at the beach. Perfekt sandy beach with sunbeds and shades and juice bars. Relaxed birding in Gambia
We spent 10 days at Footsteps on a leisurely birding holiday. Lovely setting with plenty of bird life within close proximity and of course whilst relaxing in the grounds, over 150 species seen. A lovely 25 minute easy, flat walk to the beach with a large crocodile observed in the wetland! Food excellent and it was really nice to sit chatting with other guests over the evening meal. A couple of great birding day trips with Lamin Bojang increased our bird count, thankyou! Our Marakissa tour was excellent with a delicious meal at the Marakissa River Camp included. All the staff were extremely kind, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Transfers to and from the airport worked very well for us. A perfect stay
Incredible place. Accommodation was as described if not better . Plenty of space , hot shower , fan and mosquito net. Room cleaned daily with fresh towels if needed. The outside areas were perfect for relaxing in , dappled shade amongst the trees and plants. Lots of bird life / wild life around the complex. The food was exemplary, from the fresh breakfast to a great choice for lunch to the table d’hote in the evenings. We did the beach clean , the beach walk in both directions plus plenty of birding in the area. There is lots to explore but it was also lovely just to relax in the grounds. The plunge pool was refreshing when returning from a trip for an immediate cool down. We throughly enjoyed our time here , didn’t want to leave and we are definitely looking at returning and exploring Gambia in more depth including another stay at foot steps of course .
